Foot & Body Cream (Peppermint)

Peppermint is cooling and stimulating to the circulation. Perfect for tired feet. Also good as a body cream, for which you may wish to substitute another esential oil or fragrance and adjust the texture.

You'll Need

1 small saucepan
Hand whisk and/or Electric whisk

The following ingredients...

Hemp Seed Oil
Cocoa Butter
Shea Butter

Glycerine
Stearic Acid
Citric Acid
Emulsifying wax (steareth-20)
Cetearyl alcohol

Clean Water (distilled or mineral if you wish)
Peppermint Oil

How to...

Weigh the ingredients all into the one saucepan in the following quantities...

Hemp Seed Oil: 20g
Cocoa Butter: 10g
Shea Butter: 20g

Glycerine: 7g
Stearic Acid: 10g
Citric Acid: 0.5g
Emulsifying Wax: 10g

Cetearyl Alcohol 10g
Water: 150g

Peppermint Oil: 1.5g

Put the saucepan over a gentle heat and wait until the shea butter and cocoa butter have almost completely melted. At this stage, the emulsifying wax will be melting as well. Whisk, preferably with an electric hand held whisk on a low setting, although you can use a hand (balloon) whisk if you are vigorous. Continue whisking over the heat until the emulsifying wax has completely incorporated and you have a watery-like emulsification. Take off the heat and continue gently whisking until the liquid thickens to a slightly more creamy consistency. At this stage, pour into a suitable container and leave to cool, stirring or shaking periodically. Once completely cool you should have a good quality cream.

Variations to this theme...

If you'd like to use this base as a body cream you will probably want a lighter texture and you may want to use a different essential oil. Try replacing the Peppermint Oil with another of your choice (being careful not to use any that are skin-sensitising) and adjust the following quantities...

Emulsifying wax 6g
Cetearyl alcohol 4g
